Navigating the complex world of Baldur's Gate 3 eventually brings players face-to-face with one of its most intriguing antagonists, the devil Raphael. His home base, known as the House of Hope, sits in the fiery realm of Avernus and houses some of the most powerful artifacts in the game. Finding this location and gaining entrance requires a bit of detective work and navigating the shadowy dealings of Lower City storefronts.

Finding the Entrance at the Devil's Fee

To begin your journey toward Raphael's domain, you must travel to the Lower City in Act 3. Head toward the northern section of the map to locate a unique shop called the Devil's Fee, managed by a diabolist named Helsik. This store acts as the physical bridge between the Mortal Realm and the Nine Hells.

Inside the shop, players can interact with Helsik to negotiate access to the upper floor where the portal ritual takes place. You can either pay her requested fee, persuade her for a discount, or pickpocket the necessary ritual ingredients and instructions directly from her rooms. Securing these items is the essential first step before attempting to open the doorway to Avernus.

Completing the Helsik Ritual Step by Step

Once you reach the second floor, you will find a large bloody pentagram drawn on the floor. Opening the portal demands placing five specific ingredients in exact positions around the star diagram. These items include a skull, a Coin of Mammon, a diamond, incense, and a piece of Infernal Marble.

Place the skull at the top point of the star pointing toward the desk, followed by the Coin of Mammon in the next clockwise point. Set the diamond in the lower-right point, the incense in the lower-left, and place the Infernal Marble directly in the center of the circle. When placed correctly, the portal ignites, giving your party direct access to Raphael's grand estate.

What to Expect Inside the House of Hope

Stepping through the portal transports your party into the lavish yet dangerous House of Hope. Upon arrival, you encounter Hope, a trapped spirit who provides disguise garments to keep the resident guards from attacking on sight. Exploring this area allows players to uncover high-tier equipment, legendary weapons, and critical contract documents.

However, taking major items like the Orphic Hammer or tearing up your personal contract immediately alerts the entire estate. Preparing your party with strong buff spells and healing resources before triggering the house alarms is crucial for survival. Once combat begins, fast travel is disabled, forcing players to fight their way back to the main portal room to confront Raphael himself.
